Remember when Padres GM A.J. Preller asked for 1B Paul Goldschmidt from the Diamondbacks when he was shopping Craig Kimbrel? The Diamondbacks obviously laughed off the trade and the rest of the baseball world laughed while we Padres fans cringed.
Now we learn from Jon Heyman that Preller tried to get top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres for reliever Brad Hand. That doesn’t appear to have gone over very well either. While Torres is out with Tommy John surgery, the Yankees aren’t about to trade as Heyman says a “potential perennial All-Star” for a mediocre relief pitcher in Hand.
Padres Asked Yankees About Gleyber Torres
The Yankees could have interest in some Padres relievers – Brad Hand would make the most sense – but there is absolutely no evidence they’d have any interest in trading Torres.
The Padres haven’t had a decent shortstop on the field since Khalil Greene and Preller traded their shortstop of the future Trea Turner for Wil Myers in the 2015 fiasco.
