While we await news about Yangervis Solarte’s oblique and Miguel Diaz‘s forearm, (neither have been officially added to the DL yet) the Padres announced some updates on the progress of some rehabbing Padres.

Jered Weaver is with the Chihuahuas, rehabbing with the AAA club from his hip issue, and Christian Friedrich is there with him, who has been dealing with back and elbow problems since the start of the season. Friedrich had previously been in AA with the San Antonio Missions. Trevor Cahill is with the single-A Storm working his way back from a shoulder issue. The other news attached to this is that Zach Lee cleared waivers and has been outright assigned to El Paso as well, after he was DFA’d to clear space to add lefty Dillon Overton the other day.

The returns of Weaver, Friedrich, and especially Cahill will be welcome sights for a rotation that has leaned heavily on contributions from rookies Miguel Diaz and Dinelson Lamet. Diaz is hurt and apparently will be out for an extended period. Lamet has been impressive and hasn’t appeared to be over his head, but his promotion couldn’t have been expected to have been a long-term call-up. Injuries to the veteran starters forced these kids into action, and they’ve handled the job admirably. It’s time to get the vets back into action.
