The newest Padre has arrived, while the #BLASHtags slowly get quieter.

After the Padres announced the acquisition of outfielder Matt Szczur, a corresponding roster move was sure to follow. Today the Padres made that corresponding move.

Sure enough, Matt Szczur (pronounced like Caesar, as in the salad, and in a shocking turn of events, his nickname is “salad) is in the dugout for today’s game. With the Padres getting shelled 8-0 as I type, there’s a pretty good chance that they’ll get him in the game just to hear the local fans give him a warm welcome. For a primer on the dude, our friends at Bleed Cubbie Blue put together a nice profile where they detail his upbringing, his progress through the minors, and his experiences as a bone marrow donor, which he has become an advocate for ever since.

The struggles for Jabari Blash at the MLB level have continued. Since being recalled on April 24th, he’s hit .143/.357/.286 in limited playing time with one home run, seven walks, and ten strikeouts. The one thing he’s done well at this level is draw walks, but the lack of contact and the unimpressive defense have earned him a punched ticket back to El Paso.
