After last night’s sloppy loss, the Padres play an early game today before travelling to Los Angeles to open a series against the Dodgers tomorrow. The series is split 1-1, so today’s victor will claim the series win.
The Padres are sending their most talented starter to the mound, Luis Perdomo. His potential is much better than the 4.95 ERA he has listed through his first five starts. Control and efficiency have been obstacles for him. With no days off for three straight weeks (!), the Padres need to save their bullpen as much as possible. Look for Perdomo to aggressively attack the zone and get back to his weak-contact ways as he looks to go deep into this game.
Kyle Freeland has been a pleasant surprise for the Rockies. The lefty’s sterling 2.93 ERA through five starts includes one ugly start: April 12th vs the Padres, where he gave up six earned runs in 4-2/3 innings of work. Ryan Schimpf took him deep and both Manuel Margot and Wil Myers hit doubles off of him. Most of the damage was done early, so look for the Padres to be aggressive from the start.
The Padres would love to keep taking each series from division rivals. A series win would generate some momentum for the upcoming Dodgers series. Let’s go Padres!
