The Padres made a roster move today. Trevor Cahill has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, and RHP Zach Lee has been called up to take his place. Cahill’s DL visit has been backdated to April 6th.

Cahill was solid in his first outing this season, throwing 99 pitches over 5-2/3 innings with no apparent issue. The new 10-day disabled list (changed from 15 at this winter’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement renewal) means that he could be back with the club as early as April 17th. After seasons of 85 and 80 innings in 2015 and 2014, it may be prudent to spread his workload out to keep him fresh through a season’s worth of starts.
Zach Lee may be taking Cahill’s place in the rotation, or Jarred Cosart may get a start. Lee has worked as a starter throughout his career and showed promise this spring. A former Dodgers farm hand, Lee is one of the players coveted by Logan White, former Dodgers scouting director.
