After suffering another loss to the Dodgers last night, the Padres will try to leave Los Angeles with a series split before heading back down the 5 for their home opener this weekend.
On the hill for San Diego, and making first regular season appearance for the Padres, will be Jered Weaver. His 2017 debut takes place in semi-familiar territory, just a bit North of his old home at Angels Stadium. He'll take a lifetime 6-3 record, 2.66 ERA, and 1.271 WHIP against the Dodgers into his start today as he tries to shake off his Spring Training struggles.
Brandon McCarthy looks to get his 2017 season off to a good start from which he can build. The veteran righty, who is entering the third year of a four-year contract with the Dodgers, had totaled only 63 innings of work since signing with them. Injuries have plagued him the just two reasons, keeping him off the mound more than on. But he has manages to face the Padres nine times in his career, and to great success. In those nine starts, he's 7-1 with a 3.88 ERA and 1.114 WHIP.
