Padres’ promotions ranked worst in baseball

MLB: New York Mets at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Snyder of CBS Sports ranked the promotional schedules for every MLB team. The Padres Promotional schedule was ranked dead last and described as “pretty boring” and “incredibly weak” by the author. While we fans were severely disappointed by the lack of effort, it’s nice to at least know that it didn’t go unnoticed outside of San Diego. We’re not the crazy ones here.

30. Padres

Aug. 19, Hall of Fame giveaway. We don’t even know what the giveaway is, but this is an incredibly weak promotional calendar. Even the jersey giveaways are just Padres jerseys and not individual players.

The defense of the backlash to the promotions announcement was an odd one. Padres Chairman Ron Fowler said the promo schedule was designed without creativity on purpose.

“We’re probably not going to be as edgy or creative,” he said, “because we want ones that people said they liked and the ones that demonstrated significant attendance regardless of which team we were playing that night.”

Padres leadership really is terrible at times. They really need to rethink their marketing strategy. I hope they see their ranking and negative reviews and fix it, if not this season then next.
