The Padres have reinstated backup catcher Hector Sanchez from the seven-day disabled list today while relief pitcher Kevin Quackenbush was recalled from Triple-A El Paso.
Sanchez was placed on the DL following a game against the Dodgers in which he took a foul ball to his face mask and experienced concussion-like symptoms. Quackenbush started the season down in El Paso after an abysmal Spring. Both players joined the team in Atlanta earlier today for the series opener against the Braves. Neither player appeared in the game, which ended up being a 5-2 loss for San Diego.
With these two returning to the 25-man roster, two players had to be sent down. Jabari Blash and Jake Esch were optioned to El Paso in the corresponding move. Blash, who was recalled when Sanchez hit the DL, appeared in four games during this stint, failing to record a hit in his eight at-bats and striking out five times, but walking twice.
Esch was called up when starting pitcher Luis Perdomo went on the 10-day DL. He only made one relief appearance and didn't even record an out, but walked two batters on nine pitches on Wednesday against the Rockies.
