The Padres are .500 on the season and fresh off an off day. They snagged consecutive series wins against NL West foes, Giants and Rockies, and today they continue their road trip by kicking off a series in Atlanta against the Braves, who are celebrating their home opener.
Jhoulys Chacin will get the nod to kick off the four-game set. After a rocky start to his 2017 season, Chacin rebounded with a fantastic outing in Colorado last Saturday. He threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings at Coors Field, keeping the Rockies to only three hits and a walk while striking out five batters, earning his first win in a Padres uniform.
Chacin has only faced the Braves four times in his career. He’s 1-2 in those games, having allowed a combined ten runs (nine earned) on 17 hits and 18 walks, though he also collected 17 strikeouts through the 20 innings he pitched.
Atlanta’s Julio Teheran has a little more experience (and success) going against the Padres. In seven career starts against them he is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA. He has yet to allow an earned run this season, though he did let two unearned runs get through his last time out). He’s pitched a combined 13 innings, giving up ten hits and issuing four walks while striking out 14 over his first two starts.
