I apologize for the lateness of this preview. I like to post these earlier in the day, but today life got in the way, and for once that was a good thing. I received an amazing career opportunity, and will become a great-uncle any minute now. As excited as I am to watch Alexi Amarista play, those things took precedence, which is also why this series’ preview will be so brief.
Game 1
Jarred Cosart vs Tyler Chatwood
Monday, April 10; 5:40 pm (PDT)
Cosart got bumped up from the bullpen to take the place of Trevor Cahill, who was placed on the disabled list. He has made one relief appearance this year, which was no relief at all. He walked three batters and allowed one hit, earning two runs against his record in the process of getting two outs.
Chatwood wasn’t a whole lot better in his lone game of the season; he gave up four earned runs on seven hits (including two home runs) and a walk in six innings.
Game 2
Jered Weaver vs Antonio Senzatela
Tuesday, April 11; 5:40 pm (PDT)
Weaver got knocked around in his first start for the Padres, allowing four earned runs on three walks and five hits - two of which Yasiel Puig hit out of the yard - in five innings.
Senzatela was outstanding in his big league debut, throwing five shutout innings and striking out six while allowing two hits and three free passes.
Game 3
Luis Perdomo vs Kyle Freeland
Wednesday, April 12; 12:10 pm (PDT)
Perdomo cruised through five innings his last time out, but was left on the vine too long and gave up a grand slam and the lead. Fortunately his teammates with bats bailed him out as San Diego beat San Francisco 7-5.
Freeland will be making his second major league appearance. Like Senzatela, he was stellar in his first, beating L.A. by allowing one run on four hits and two walks in six innings while striking out six Dodgers.
More details about each game, including starting lineups, will be included in our individual game previews on the day of each.
