Poway Tony Gwynn Statue planned to be completed by his birthday

After years of indecision the city of Poway broke ground near the ball fields at Lake Poway where they plan to erect a 10 foot high statue of Tony Gwynn holding a fictitious child. The size of the footprint for the statue is rather large and makes me wish that they had made an enormous Gwynn statue straddling the lake like the Colossus of Rhodes. The statue was paid for in part by a charity concert that took place a few months ago. They hope to have it completed by Gwynn’s birthday on May 8th.
