The Padres are coming off an exciting comeback win last night against the Rangers at home. Christian Bethancourt continued to show his versatility and value with a defensive appearance in left field and a walkoff home run to boot.
Today the Friars hit the road for an afternoon game against the Giants in Scottsdale. Taking the hill will be Trevor Cahill, who continues to compete for a coveted spot in the Padres rotation. His most recent start probably didn't help his cause. The righty went 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs (though three of those were unearned) on five hits and a walk. But in his previous three outings, he kept opponents to only two runs on three hits through eight frames.
Also slated for some innings today are Jose Torres, Craig Stammen, and Kevin Quackenbush - all Padres bullpen hopefuls.
The Giants will give the ball to Madison Bumgarner to kick this off this afternoon. So far this Spring, Bumgarner has racked up 16 innings of work through which he's allowed seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits and five walks while collecting 11 strikeouts.
Here's how San Diego will love up against Bumgarner:
