Paul Clemens Is Released; Padres Make Roster Moves

The release and subsequent moves help to clear up a jumbled rotation.

Andy Green announced today that Paul Clemens has been released.

Clemens (4-5, 4.04 ERA last year) has not had the best Spring Training, putting up a loss and a 7.50 ERA in his 12 innings of work. His release clears up another rotation spot for the hodgepodge of pitchers the Padres have up for rotation spots.

Also among the roster moves are (former) rotation hopefuls Zach Lee and Tyrell Jenkins, both of whom were assigned to minor league camp. Carlos Asuaje will also go back to El Paso with the logjam at 2nd base taken up by Cory Spangenberg and Ryan Schimpf.

Clemens will leave with the legacy of being Paul Player for one game against the Phillies last year. Otherwise, the waiver-wire pickup will have to hope he latches on to another team.
