World Baseball Classic 2017: Friday's schedule, results, and standings

The United States and Dominican Republic face off as Group F play continues in San Diego.

Baseball: World Baseball Classic-Dominican Republic at Puerto Rico Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Last night the Dominican Republic defeated Venezuela by way of a 3-0 shutout. Tonight, World Baseball Classic Group F play continues at Petco Park in San Diego with the United States and Puerto Rico back in action starting at 7:00 pm PT. Both teams are 1-0 so far in this second round, so a loss for either team wouldn't be the end of the road, but it would make their competition much harder.

Team USA will give the ball to Marcus Stroman of the Blue Jays. He had a successful outing last Saturday, in the first round of the tournament, throwing 4 2/3 shutout innings against the Dominican Republic.

The Mets' Seth Lugo will take the hill for Puerto Rico, hoping for a repeat of his own shutout performance in his previous WBC appearance. A week ago he pitched 5 1/3 innings, only allowed one hit and collecting three strikeouts along the way.
