As you may or may not have noticed, we haven’t seen much of Alex Dickerson this spring. He has appeared in exactly one game, back on March 11th, when he went one-for-two with a walk and played nowhere int he field because he was the designated hitter. It had been reported that he had back issues, generally phrased in the context of soft tissue problems, until Dennis Lin dropped this bombshell today:
Alex Dickerson has been diagnosed with a disc protrusion in his back. He won't need surgery, but will miss 3-4 more weeks.

I’m not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once. Wikipedia tells me that this is not as bad as a herniated disc, because this is a condition where the “anulus fibrosus” remains intact yet bulges abnormally under pressure. This seems like the kind of condition that doesn’t really heal itself and can become a herniated disc under repetitive or excessive stress, but what do I know, I’m just a keyboard jockey. Let’s all wish Mr. Dickerson a smooth recovery and hope that we get to see him back on the field for most of 2017. Until then, the leftfield ball is firmly in Jabari Blash’s court.
