A couple of home runs and a solid start from the starting pitcher yesterday gave the Padres a 4-2 win over the Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Today the team stays on the road for a game against the Brewers in Maryvale.
Paul Clemens will get the start for the Friars, making his third Cactus League appearance as he competes for a rotation spot. He had a rough Spring debut on February 25th, giving up three earned runs on four hits (including a home run) and a walk through two innings of work. His more recent start was an improvement, however. The right-hander threw three solid innings, keeping the Rockies to one run on two hits and a walk.
Another Padres rotation hopeful, Trevor Cahill, will also get some mound time against the Brewers today. So far this Spring he's made a good case for himself, keeping opponents scoreless and limiting them to only one hit and two walks through five innings of work in his two appearances.
On the offensive side of the ball, a notable inclusion in today's lineup is Alex Dickerson, making his Spring Training debut. He's been working his way back from a back injury this Spring, but returned to workouts this past week. He'll play the role of designated hitter against Milwaukee this afternoon.
Matt Garza will get the ball for the Brewers to start things off today. In two starts this Spring, he's thrown three combined innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits.
The game gets underway in Maryvale at 12:05 pm PT, but will be telecast on a tape delay on Fox Sports San Diego at 7:00 pm tonight. Or you can listen to the Brewers radio broadcast on MLB At-Bat.
