This post was inspired by/ is piggybacking SD Hat Guy’s post yesterday about the parallels between the Padres and the Expos. It’s the twenty-third edition of my 29-part series of these, and at this point I’m just looking for any excuse to get. this. over. with. What I do, for some reason, is use Baseball Reference's Multi-team Finder to find the guys who have played for both the Padres and the team du jour, then construct the optimal 25-man roster. I’d been putting this one off since I wasn’t sure how to go about it, whether or not to draw a clear distinction between the Expos and Nationals. What I ended up doing was putting together three teams: One of Padres and Expos, one of Padres and Nationals, and then one of Padres and either. And, as always, I choose players based on their peak or career as a whole, not by how they played specifically with either or both teams. If that weren’t the case, a lot of veterans who were past their glory days and came to San Diego like a dying dog wanders into the woods would be disqualified. Call it the Jim Edmonds trophy, and today’s most notable honoree is Cliff Floyd.
