The 2017 season will come to an end today for the Padres and Giants - the only two NL West teams who will not be in the playoffs. After San Diego's come-from-behind win yesterday, today's finale at AT&T Park will be of the rubber game variety.

Luis Perdomo gets the ball for the Padres, looking to end the season strong. The 24-year-old righty was mostly a solid addition to the Padres rotation in his second season in the Majors (and first as a full-time starter). He went 8-11 with a 4.65 ERA in 28 starts.

Perdomo pitched better than average against the Giants this season. After giving up five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings against them back in April, he only gave up one earned run through six innings in each of his following three starts against them. His 3.09 ERA against the Giants was his best mark against NL West teams this year.

On the hill for San Francisco will be Johnny Cueto. This season that saw him miss some significant time due to injury, but he'll try to end it on a high note as he enters the offseason, during which he'll have to make the decision to either stay with the Giants or opt out of his contract.

Since he missed half of July and all of August, Cueto hasn't faced the Padres since the first half of the season. In fact they were the last team he faced before he went on the disabled list in July. He only lasted 3 2/3 innings in that start, aalowing four earned runs on six hits and four walks, while still collecting eight strikeouts. Back in April he went seven innings against them and kept them to two runs to earn the win.
