Today's the day we find out if one of the best and most beloved San Diego Padres of all time will make it to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Trevor Hoffman awaits his fate, as do we fans, and hopefully a few hours from now we'll all be celebrating rather than grumbling about the baseball writers who left him off their ballots.
Hoffy, in his second year of Hall of Fame eligibility, is among the favorites for induction in 2017, though he still seems to be on the border according to available ballot trackers. Last year, his first time on the ballot, he received 67.3 percent of the vote, close to the necessary 75 percent.
Coverage of the announcement begins on MLB Network at 12 p.m. PT and goes until 4 p.m. Analysts will discuss and talk with candidates, and the actual announcement of the inductees will take place at 3 p.m. All of this will also be simulcast online at MLB.com.
