Padres Preview: 09/08 Veteran Clayton Richard takes on rookie Jeff Hoffman in Rockies opener

The Padres continue their homestand against an NL West rival.

The next opponent to take on the Padres are the division-rival Rockies, who come to town tonight to begin a four-game set. Clayton Richard is slated to make the start in the opener opposite Colorado’s Jeff Hoffman.

Richard has pitched well since joining San Diego’s rotation last month. In four starts for the 2016 Padres, he has put together 23 innings of work while allowing five runs, only three of which were earned. Career-wise against the Rockies, Richard is 2-4 with a 5.23 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts).

Rockies rookie Hoffman will be making is fourth Major League start, still seeking his first win. He’s given up 13 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits through 15 frames. He last pitched on August 31st, but had to take some extra days of rest
