The Padres and Dodgers conclude their series at Chavez Ravine today and determine the winner of the three-game set.
In this final game of the road trip, the Friars will give the ball to Christian Friedrich, who skipped his last start. Though it’s still relatively early in his career Friedrich has always pitched in the NL West and therefore has plenty of experience against the Dodgers. But of his 12 career appearances against L.A., only two have been starts - both occurring this season as a member of the Padres. He didn’t fare too well in either of those starts, going 0-1 while giving up a combined five earned runs through 8 1/3 innings of work.
On the mound for the Dodgers this afternoon will be their no. 2 prospect, Jose De Leon, who will be making his Major League debut. He’ll be the fifth Dodgers rookie to start a game this week alone. The right-hander is coming off two straight shutout performances for Triple-A Oklahoma City. In 16 starts for the Minor League Dodgers this season, he has posted a 2.61 ERA.
