This is it folks. The final series of the 2016 season. It was a weird season, best described as ‘lukewarm’. Not the worst, but very very far from the best. Today marks the beginning of the end, and it was marked with a loss. We’re guessing it has something to do with Austin Hedges not hitting two home runs for 9 RBI.
Edwin Jackson was the culprit for today’s loss. He threw for 6 innings, and in that time he gave up 5 hits and 5 earned runs. Two of those were home runs, one 2-run HR to Paul Goldschmidt and one 2-run HR to Chris Owings.
The Padres gained their runs the traditional way: Ryan Schimpf home runs. Schimpf blasted his twentieth home run of the season, a two-run blast to center. Out of almost 60 hits, 20 of them have been home runs. He’s sitting at about 50 RBI for the season. Beast.
The other run was scored by a Manuel Margot double; the guaranteed prospect run. That was Margot’s fourth double since his call-up. He scored Luis Sardinas, who reached base on a single earlier in the inning. The fourth inning was the Padres only shot at the Dbacks today, and they soon fell 5-3.
