Although they dropped their final home game last night, the Padres won the series against the Dodgers to close out their 2016 home slate. Tonight they begin their last series of the season on the road against the Diamondbacks.
Edwin Jackson will kick off the weekend set at Chase Field while closing out his 2016 season. It’s his first time facing Arizona this year, but he has 12 career outings (nine starts) against them, having gone 2-4 with a 4.55 ERA. His last time out, he earned a win against the Giants by keeping them to two runs on four hits through six innings of work. But he also issued five walks in that outing, tying a season high.
Jackson has struggled in his seven games away from home this season. Through those seven starts, he’s just 1-3 with a 9.12 ERA and 2.065 WHIP.
Rookie right-hander Braden Shipley gets the start for the home team tonight. He’s coming off back-to-back losses, the first of which was against San Diego. He only lasted four innings at Petco Park on September 19th, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk.
