The Padres took the series opener against the Dodgers thanks to some powerful hitting by rookie Hunter Renfroe. Hopefully they have some runs left in them this evening as they try to clinch the series win behind another Padres rookie, Luis Perdomo.
In his last outing against the Dodgers, Perdomo went six innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits, including a couple of homers. The right-hander has yet to notch a win against L.A. in five appearances (two starts) through his first year in the Majors. He’s 0-3 with an 8.53 ERA through nineteen innings against them.
Another rookie will take the mound for the Dodgers, who are looking to clinch home field advantage in the playoffs. Jose De Leon gets the call this evening, making his fourth Major League appearance. He made his MLB debut against the Padres earlier this month, and got the win after a six-inning performance in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out nine along the way. But after going 2-0 in his first two Major League outings (including the win against the Padres), De Leon ran into trouble his last time out. He only lasted 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (four earned on seven hits and two walks.
