The Padres kick off their final home series of 2016 tonight against the team that started their season, but hopefully with a very different result this time. When the Dodgers came to San Diego to kick off the season back in April, they swept the series and outscored the home team 25-0. The Padres are just 5-11 against the Dodgers this year, but they’ll try to tack on a few more wins this series and give the Friar Faithful a good 2016 sendoff.
Paul Clemens gets the start in the series opener. It’ll be his third overall outing but first start against L.A., both this season and in his career. He combined for 2 1/3 innings of work in relief against the Dodgers back in July, giving up one run on two hits in those outings.
Opposite Clemens will be Kenta Maeda, who pitched in that season-opening series at the beginning of April. He threw six shutout innings in that start, keeping the Padres offense to five hits while striking out four and issuing no walks. That was the first of three outings against the Friars in 2016, his first MLB season. He’s 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA against them.
