Just a few days ago the Padres found themselves on the verge of sweeping the Giants. Today they’ll try to avoid getting swept by the Rockies as they complete their three-game set at Coors Field.
Jarred Cosart takes the hill for San Diego today after missing his last start with a hamstring and groin strain. He struggled in his two starts prior to that, pitching only 7 2/3 innings combined whil allowing ten runs (nine earned) on seven hits and five walks, and only striking out three. But he pitched well in the latter half of August, and hopefully he can get back to that point here towards the end of the season. Today’s outing will mark Cosart’s first career appearance against Colorado.
Rockies starter Chad Bettis, on the other hand, has faced the Padres a fair amount of times in the past. He’ll make his tenth overall appearance (seventh start) against them today, looking to improve on a lifetime 2.70 ERA and 2-1 record. He’s coming off a very good start against them on September 11th at Petco Park, where he threw seven innings and kept them to two runs on four hits and a walk. The start before that was the best of his career, a complete-game shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts against the Giants.
