The Padres and Rockies continue with game 3 of their four-game set this evening. After having dropped game 2, the Padres will try to once again get the advantage in the series with a win tonight.
Christian Friedrich gets the ball in this one, facing the team that designated him for assignment and then released him earlier this year. The former Rockies first round pick already faced his old team once this season, pitching six innings of two-hit ball, allowing only one run, unearned, and striking out nine batters in the process. He didn’t get the win that time, but he didn’t get the loss either.
Just two starts after the one against Colorado, Friedrich earned his last win. In the 12 games he’s pitched (11 starts) since then, he’s 0-8 with a 6.03 ERA.
Rockies starter Jon Gray is coming off a rough outing against another NL West rival. He allowed five runs on seven hits, including a homer, to the Diamondbacks his last time out. The righty has pitched five times against San Diego in his career, and three of those outings took place this season. He split two decisions in those three starts, allowing seven runs (five earned) in a total of 20 innings.
