The Padres continue their homestand with a series against the Cubs starting tonight. Edwin Jackson gets the ball for the opener against his former team while Jon Lester makes his Petco Park debut.

It won’t be Jackson’s first time facing the Cubs. He’s done it nine times - eight times as a starter - in his career, going 3-4 with a 5.58 ERA. He comes into tonight’s matchup with a 3-2 record and 5.20 ERA through his first six starts as a Padre. But he’s coming off the worst of those outings. While only lasting four innings against the Rays, he coughed up eight earned runs on nine hits and three walks.

Lester, on the other hand, is coming off a fantastic outing. He went 6 2/3 innings against the Brewers and kept them to one run on three hits and two walks, striking out seven batters along the way. The win brought him to 13-4 on the season, with a 2.86 ERA.

One of his other 12 wins came against the Padres back in May. Lester gave up three runs on four hits and a walk against them at Wrigley Field. That was his third career appearance against San Diego, and first win. Overall he’s 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA through those three starts.
