The Padres got off to a good start in their series against the Diamondbacks, winning the opener last night by a score of 7-4. Tonight they’ll look to Clayton Richard to keep the positivity going and help them clinch a series win.

Richard will make his second start of the season, and first back at Petco Park. He made one relief appearance there immediately after being acquired by the Padres earlier this month. He only recorded one out and gave up a run on two hits in his 2016 San Diego debut. A few days later he threw a shutout inning in relief on the road against the Pirates. Then he made his first start for the team in New York on August 14th, going five innings and allowing two runs on three hits and three walks en route to a loss.

The southpaw has a good track record against the Diamondbacks. In ten career starts against them, he is 7-1 with a 4.16 ERA.

Tonight’s Arizona starter, Robbie Ray, is still looking for his first career win against San Diego. The lefty is 0-4 with a 6.00 ERA in his four previous attempts, the most recent of which took place back in May of this season at Chase Field. He only lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits (including two home runs) and two walks, though he also struck out eight batters along the way.
