It turns out that the Hector Olivera DFA isn’t the only Padres’ roster move of the day.

Last night’s game against the Brewers brought much joy, but there was one moment of sadness in Mudville. While going from first to third on a Wil Myers single, Alexi Amarista came up hobbling and holding the back of his left leg. What looked like a strained hamstring has sent the Little Ninja to the 15-day disabled list.

Since being recalled in mid-July, Amarista brought some spark to the team as he went 7-for-18 while playing at shortstop as well as leftfield. He spent time on the DL earlier this season due to an injury to his right hamstring. (cue Seinfeld voice) What’s the deal with all these leg injuries this season?

In a corresponding move, shortstop Jose Rondon has been recalled from double-A San Antonio. I don’t know if that’s a truly accurate statement, since he was just assigned to San Antonio just yesterday. I’d like to know just how far he got. I’d like to think of him sitting at the airport, having a social spritzer and reflecting upon his first MLB cup of coffee, when his phone buzzes as Andy Green is texting him to take an Uber back to the team hotel. In reality, they probably knew after the game that his services might be needed shortly, so they just kept him with the team. Regardless, we’ll get to see some more of this:

I’m sad to see Alexi get dinged, but at the same time we get to see Rondon get some extra reps. With an inside track on next year’s roster, Rondon’s cup of coffee just got a refill, and he even gets a start tonight!
