After going 2-7 on a on their road trip and most recently being swept by the Rays in Tampa, the Padres are back on the West Coast for their next seven games. The homestand begins with a four-game set against the Diamondbacks, kicking off tonight at 7:10 pm PT.
Paul Clemens gets the ball tonight, coming off his second win of the season and first win ever in a Padres uniform. He only lasted five innings and gave up three runs to the Mets on five hits, but was credited with the win in his eighth appearance (fourth start) for San Diego.
Clemens faced the Diamondbacks back in July for the first and only time in his career. That was his Padres debut, a one-inning relief appearance in Arizona, where he gave up just one hit and an unearned run.
The Dbacks will send rookie Archie Bradley to the mound in search of his fifth win of the season. The right-hander has struggled this month and last, going 1-5 with a 5.40 ERA since the start of July.
Bradley split his two previous starts against the Padres this season. Back in May he threw a career-high 7 1/3 innings against them at Chase Field allowing three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine batters on his way to a win. His second attempt, on July 4th, didn’t go as well. He tossed six innings in that start and gave up five runs on six hits and three walks, though he also notched seven strikeouts.
