The Padres have lost each of their last four series. But today they’ll have to salvage a win to avoid being swept for the first time in almost four weeks.

Christian Friedrich gets the ball in the conclusion of this East Coast road trip. He will go for his fifth win of the season, and first since June 23rd. In the eight-game stretch since then, the southpaw is 0-6 with a 6.17 ERA. Throughout his four Major League seasons, Friedrich has never faced the Rays.

Likewise, Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer has never faced the Padres in his career, and Padres hitters have only combined for 22 hits all-time against him. It’s been a rough season for the right-hander, who leads Major League Baseball with 16 losses through his first 25 starts.

Hopefully the Padres can make it 17 losses after today and make the flight back home a happy one.
