SD 1, TB 15: Ross wasn't the only one throwing BP today

The fourth straight loss was a slaughter.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

There was nothing pretty about today's loss against the Rays. The San Diego Padres were playing miserably at every stop. Notably, the Friars only used 2 pitchers during the bloodshed. This presumably saved a few arms on the chance that the Pads don't play so swell a fifth time.

The disastourly duo today was Edwin Jackson and Carlos Villanueva. Jackson had the start, and lasted a whole 4 innings before getting yanked. He gave up 9 hits, 8 runs (1 home run), walked 3, and struck out 3. Most of the earned runs he allowed were off RBI-doubles in the 2nd and 3rd inning, where he allowed 7 runs between the two.

Villanueva was upstaged in the earned run department, but definitely not in the home run department. Dude gave up 4 straight home runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th inning. Yikes.

The Rays pitching was apparently on point. Blake Snell only allowed a single run all day, oddly enough on a 1-out RBI-walk to Alexei Ramirez. That was the only Padre that would cross the plate after the 4th inning.

August baseball can be rough for Padres fans, but nothing is more of a bummer than a blowout.
