The benefit of having a game start at 1 PM EST is that if things don't go so well you have an entire day to distract yourself. If you're in San Diego, the bummer loss to the Mets passed early, like a morning bathroom emergency. The starting pitching was fine, the Padres bullpen was ugly, and the bats weren't producing.
Clayton Richard had himself a pretty alright start. Five innings with only 2 earned runs on 3 hits (2 home runs) and 3 BB's and K's isn't half bad. Andy Green was hoping to only get a bit out of him, and Richard produce 75 pitches of a decent start. That is, if it wasn't for Jose Dominguez and Carlos Villanueva crapping it up, giving up 3 more runs for the Mets' 5.
The lone, lone, lone alone run from the Friars came off a Yangervis Solart RBI-single. He scored Myers, and denied the Mets a shutout.
