SD 2, NYM 3: Padres get walk-off'd in the 11th

The attempt to ruin the Mets' night was foiled.

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

Everybody was mostly on point for this game, on both sides. The starting pitching was solid, the hitting was alright, albeit low-scoring. Unfortunately the Padres were edged out in the extra-inning match. The downside of being the visiting team is that you have to suffer the walk off.

Mister Jarred Cosart had a fantastic second game for the San Diego Padres. Coming off a cruddy 5-run game against the Phillies a week ago, this was a good bounce back. He went a healthy 6 innings giving up only 3 hits and a lone run. He walked 2, struck out 2, and kept the Padres very much in the game. The bullpen did the same, with Jose Dominguez giving up the only other run. That is, until Brandon Maurer allowed the 1-out game-winning "fielders choice".

The "choice" in this case was Schimpf choosing to throw a weak grounder into the on-deck circle with runners at first and third.

It wasn't that miserable of a loss though. Yangervis Solarte hit his 12th home run of the season, a line drive shot into right on an off-speed pitch. Wil Myers scored the other run, kicking open the door in the 9th inning before the Mets could close it, tying the game 2-2 on a 2-out 1-1 count home run into left-center field. That's his 23rd home run of the season, getting that much closer to 30.

Clayton Richard and the 2016 San Diego Padres will get his first start on this 6-man rotation against the Mets tomorrow. Set your clocks early for a morning game start if you want to get a load of that.
