Padres INF Alexi Amarista has a left hamstring strain

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Alexi Amarista left tonight’s game with a left hamstring strain. The injury took place in the bottom of the 5th inning. With Amarista on first base, Wil Myers hit a double to left. Amarista rounded second and then slowed down before reaching third base safely. In the video here you can see him grab his left hamstring while wincing in pain. The trainer came out to check on him and he ultimately made his way to the clubhouse with an apparent injury to his left leg as Christian Bethancourt pinch-ran in his place.

An inning later, the Padres announced that it was indeed a hamstring strain. As Dennis Lin pointed out, this is the fifth injury of its kind for San Diego in 2016. It’s the second such injury for Amarista this year, having spent time on the DL after straining his right hamstring in April. That was just a few days after Yangervis Solarte hit the DL with a strained hamstring. And Jemile Weeks and Andrew Cashner both strained their hammies in May. Weeks is still out indefinitely with the injury after being moved to the 60-day DL last month.

As of now, Amarista is listed as day-to-day.
