It was fun while it lasted, wasn't it? The home run record the Padres have been chasing has been snuffed out thanks to the visiting Reds, and now the Padres will look to take a measure of revenge against the visiting team in the second game of the series at Petco Park.
Anthony DeSclafani currently holds a perfect win-loss record (6-0) despite allowing five runs over five innings against the Giants in his last start. DeSclafani has had success against the Padres this year already, doing his part in a five-hit shutout against the Padres back on June 26th. He'll be matched up against Christian Friedrich.
Friedrich, who has now made the most starts for the Padres this season (14) since Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea were traded, is coming off his shortest game this season. Christian will look to turn it around after being shellacked against Washington to the tune of five runs on six hits with a walk and no strikeouts over only three innings. Unfortunately, the Reds lineup has the third highest OPS in the National League against Friedrich, Christian will really have to work and hit his locations in order to have success in this game.
Here's hoping Matt Kemp can continue to hit (.314 with seven dingers in the second half) and the lineup can find offense even with the injury to Alex Dickerson, who had a 4 game HR streak ended by an unfortunate collision with Travis Jankowski last night. Tonight's contest begins at 5:40 Left Coast Time.
