So far July has been good to the Padres. Their first two games this month consisted of exciting wins with some fun offense. Today they’ll go for the sweep against the visiting Yankees as they close out their last homestand before the All-Star Break.

Heading to the hill for the home team will be Andrew Cashner in his first start back from his second trip to the disabled list this season. This time it was a for strained neck, which cut short his last appearance after he recorded only one out in the first inning against the Rockies on June 10th.

Today he’ll be making just his second career start against the Yankees. He previously kept them to two runs on seven hits through seven innings of work back in 2013. That was a much better season than the one he’s been having this year. Not only has he had to work his way back from two injuries already, but he’s struggled to string together decent outings, going 3-5 with a 4.75 ERA through his first 11 appearances.

Making the start for New York will be rookie right-hander Chad Green, making just his third Major League appearance and second start. He ran into some trouble in his first start, back in May against the Diamondbacks. He gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, including a pair of home runs, and exited the game after only four innings. In May he made his second big league appearance and threw one scoreless inning in relief against the Tigers.
