The Padres are fresh off an off day and back home after a ten-game road trip. Tonight they open up a three-game set against the visiting Reds that will bring them to the end of July, and they'll be looking to make more history in the process.

Veteran righty Edwin Jackson will get the ball for San Diego in tonight's series opener, making his third start since joining the Padres. He was solid while earning  win and a loss in his first two starts, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 12 1/3 innings of work. Jackson has faced the Reds ten times (nine times as a starter) in his career, going 4-3 with a 3.99 record in those games.

Toeing the rubber for Cincinnati will be Brandon Finnegan, making his 21st start of the season. It'll be his second time facing the Friars in 2016. The first time was on June 25th when he went 6 2/3 and allowed three earned runs on five hits, including a home run.

Of course, everyone's eyes will be peeled to see if the Padres can extend their home run streak to an all-time National-League best 26 games and keep hope alive to set the MLB record this weekend. Coincidentally, the Reds were the last team to keep the Padres homer-less, back on June 26th at Great American Ballpark. But statistically there is a good chance that won't be the case this series as the Reds have been notorious for giving up the long ball in 2016.
