The home run fountain is plentiful for the Padres, as the streak continues and winning is the result. Despite a poor start from the San Diego starting pitching, the bats were on fire and the W was earned.
Christian Friedrich still hasn't found a groove, and today's early Sunday match had him only lasting 3 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, struck out nobody, and was basically done before lunch. Carlos Villanueva had a bumpy relief performance as well, but after that the bullpen locked things down.
Luckily, the Padres lineup wasn't taking any prisoners today. A total of 12 hits with 3 Padres notching multi-hit games. Wil Myers had an RBI-single in the third, scoring Derek Norris and Alexei Ramirez. Myers was thrown out and tagged by Trea Turner of all people.
Madman Ryan Schimpf had himself another great game. He hit an RBI-single in the fourth to help chop the Nationals lead a bit. He then hit his 9th home run of the month in the 8th inning, breaking all kinds of records for the club, and his hitting well above any expected HR margin.
Alex Dickerson hit his 3rd home run of the season as well, right before Schimpfs for some back-to-back action.
Then, Yangervis Solarte and Ramirez tacked on the go-ahead and insurance runs to even out the score at Padred 10 to Nationals 6. Brandon Maurer slammed the door shut and that was all she wrote.
