After getting swept in a four-game set against the Cardinals, the Padres will try to get back in the win column this evening as they continue their road trip in D.C. Luis Perdomo will get the start in the series opener against Tanner Roark and the Nationals.
Perdomo only lasted 4 2/3 innings in his last start, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, including a home run, against the Giants. But since becoming a regular starter for San Diego, he's lowered his ERA by more than two runs. This will be his first career outing against the Nationals.
Roark, on the other hand, has faced the Padres four times (three times as a starter) in his career, going 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA. One of those wins came last month when the Nats traveled to San Diego, though it wasn't his sharpest outing. He threw six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. Unlike Perdomo to the Padres, Roark has been a solid member of the Nationals rotation all year. He brings a 9-5 record and 2.82 ERA into tonight's game, and he's coming off his best performance of the year. He eight shutout frames at home against the Pirates last Saturday, keeping Pittsburgh batters to five hits and a walk while striking out five.
