The San Diego Padres have announced a handful of moves today, the latest of which is Melvin Upton Jr. being placed on the bereavement list. In the corresponding move, Alexi Amarista has been recalled from Triple-A El Paso. Per MLB rules, Upton must stay on the bereavement list for at least three days and return to the team before the eighth day.
With Upton out, it looks like Padres manager Andy Green has taken this opportunity to get quite creative with his lineup today. Christian Bethancourt will get some playing time today, but he won't be catching for today's starter, Andrew Cashner. Instead he'll make his fourth appearance of the season (and of his career) in left field, while batting fifth in the lineup. Norris will get the start behind the plate and make a rare appearance in the leadoff spot. This will be his first time leading off this season after doing so five times in 2015. Travis Jankowski, who will play center field tonight, will bat 9th while Cashner hits in the 8th spot.

As roydjt posted earlier today, left-handed pitcher Buddy Baumann has also been called up today and will soon make his Major League debut, which has been a long time coming. Baumann takes the empty spot on the San Diego roster that resulted from yesterday's trade of Drew Pomeranz to the Boston Red Sox.
