After being swept in a two-game series against the Orioles, the Padres continue their homestand with some more interleague action as the Yankees come to town for a three-game set.
Colin Rea takes the hill in the opener against New York this evening. The right-hander, who turns 26 years old today, is coming off a win, though it wasn't his strongest outing. He only lasted five innings against the Reds in his last start, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and a season-high-tying four walks. However, despite the relatively short appearance he also set a career high in strikeouts, with seven.
Nathan Eovaldi will pitch opposite Rea in tonight's matchup. He looks to turn his luck around against the Padres after landing on the losing end of each of his last three starts. The righty went 0-3 with a 8.65 ERA in five starts last month after dominating in May, when he went 5-0 with a 3.25 ERA in six starts, so he'll try to get his July started on a positive note. Tonight will mark his fifth career appearance against San Diego. In his previous four, he went 1-1 with a 2.31 ERA.
