The Padres will try to lock up a series win against the Rockies tonight with Andrew Cashner on the mound for the start, looking for his first win since returning from the disabled list.
Cashner was rolling right along in his most recent start, but after throwing five scoreless frames he ran into trouble and gave up four runs (three earned) in the sixth inning. Cashner has given up three earned runs in each of his last five starts, going 1-4 with a 5.19 ERA in that span. His sole win during that stretch came against these Rockies on May 3rd, when he lasted six innings and collected a season-high six strikeouts. In 12 career appearances (seven starts) against Colorado, Cashner is 2-3 with a 5.87 ERA
Chad Bettis takes the hill for the Rockies, hoping to bounce back from a couple of rough starts. Over his last two outings, he combined for 13 earned runs through 8 1/3 innings of work. This will be his second time facing the Padres this season. The first time around he kept them to two runs (one earned) through seven innings at Coors Field. Career-wise he has an overall 2-0 record with a 1.82 ERA in seven tries (four as a starter).
