Game Recap: 5/3 Kemp, Upton Jr. power Padres past Rockies

Matt Kemp and Melvin Upton, Jr. put in work and the Padres came away with a 4-0 win against our NL West rival Rockies.

The Padres took the field tonight looking to put last night's misery behind them, and boy did they deliver. The Padres delivered a win against the visiting Rockies 4-0 tonight at Petco.

Matt Kemp got the party started very promptly with a (cah-rushed) elevated Rusin offering in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring both Jon Jay and Wil Myers. The monster three pointer was Kemp's 14th home run of the season and is now tied for the longest home run hit at Petco at a forecasted 458 feet.

Kemp goes yard for three points

Nolan Arenado was noticeably perturbed by Kemp's dinger and laid into his Rockies teammates afterward.

Melvin Upton, Jr. decided the game wasn't exciting enough and decided to take a straight steal of home in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run against Chris Rusin and dodging a tag by old friend Nick Hundley.

There's a reason why they call a steal of home the most exciting play in baseball.

Drew Pomeranz had himself a night, pitching a two-hit shutout over seven innings of work. The restructured bullpen in the form of Ryan Buchter and a non-save finish from Carlos Villanueva sealed the win.

Sad news during the game: "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali passed away at the age of 74.

We're back tomorrow with the Pads aiming for a series win at 7:10 PM.
