The Padres open up a three-game set against the Rockies tonight as they try to rebound from arguably the worst game of the season. Toeing the rubber for tonight's series opener will be former Rockie Drew Pomeranz, who's coming off his worst start of the season.
Pomeranz only lasted five innings against the Diamondbacks his last time out. He gave up six earned runs on five hits and four walks, though he also managed to strike out nine batters. The Padres southpaw made his Major League debut with the Rockies back in 2011. This will be his fourth career appearance against his former team, but only his second start against them. His first start was his 2016 debut for the Padres. He gave up two earned runs through five frames, striking out seven along the way.
On the hill for Colorado will be Chris Rusin, who made his 2016 debut in a relief appearance against the Padres. He allowed three earned runs in 1 1/3 innings of work. That was his only career relief outing against San Diego, but he's also faced them three times as a starter. Overall he is 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA.
