After splitting the two-game set in Baltimore, the Padres continue their road trip with a four-game set in Cincinnati. The opener of that series, set for 4:10 pm PT this evening, features of matchup of lefties. Christian Friedrich will take the mound for the visiting Friars while John Lamb toes the rubber for the home team Reds.
Friedrich will make his eighth start of the season, and enters the matchup boasting a 3-2 record and 3.15 ERA. He's coming off one of his worse outings, a six-frame performance during which he allowed six runs on nine hits, including a season-high two home runs. In five career appearances (two starts) against the Reds, Friedrich is 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA.
The rookie Lamb, who is facing the Padres for the first time in his career tonight, has had his share of ups and downs this season. His latest start was one of the ups - he went 5 1/3 innings while keeping the Astros to only one earned run on three hits. Although he also issued four walks in that performance, he tied a career high with eight strikeouts.
