The MLB has started their round-up of Hollywood C-Listers and retired baseball legends to do battle as representatives for the National and American Leagues. The game will be played at Petco Park on July 10th prior to the All-Star Game.
I knew the Padres would have a tough time finding a celebrity to represent them and it looks like they did. I was holding out hope for Kendra Wilkinson but it appears that it might be Mark-Paul Gosselaar since he’s playing a Padre in his new TV show. As I said then:
Fox undoubtedly chose the Padres as the team because of the All-Star game. You can bet that the cast will be playing in the celebrity game.
Still I wish that we had someone who was actually a Padre fan or from San Diego in the celebrity lineup. I thought for sure Matt Kemp would be dating a celebrity by now and provide a connection, but he failed us.
The headliner so far appears to be model Nina Agdal. I didn’t know this but she’s the first female ambassador for New Era Caps. I recognize J.K. Simmons from a few of his movies but never knew his name until his gross buffed out old man pictures started appearing as Twitter Moments (my only source for news) a few weeks ago.
I also recognize Pete Wentz, although I wish I didn’t. He’s the bassist of Fall Out Boy and I thought for sure we left him back in 2003, but he has surfaced here. Landon Donovan is the only U.S. soccer player name that I recognize, though I still have no idea what he looks like.
Two celebrities I don’t recognize at all are Sterling K. Brown from “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and Tyler Hoechiln from “Everybody Wants Some”. I heard the latter was good but I’ve seen neither.
As for the legends we’ve got Trevor Hoffman, Ozzie Smith, Rollie Fingers and Tim Raines. Three former Padres and Tim Raines. Not bad. I look forward to further announcements.
