After a quick road trip to Denver to face a division rival, the Padres are back home to begin a new series against the visiting Marlins this evening. Colin Rea gets the start in the series opener opposite Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen.

Rea is one of only two starting pitchers remaining from the start of the season who hasn’t had to miss any time on the disabled list, though he did get sent down to Triple-A El Paso for a brief stint to help manage his innings. Tonight marks his 13th appearance (12th start) this year. He’ll try to improve on a 3-2 record and 4.74 ERA as he makes his first career outing against the Marlins.

Chen, having pitched for the Orioles in the American League each of his four years in the big leagues prior to this season, is also facing the Padres for the first time in his career. In his first 12 outings in 2016, he’s gone 3-2 with a 4.56 ERA. He’s coming off a rough start against the Twins in which he gave up five earned runs on nine hits, including three home runs, through 5 1/3 innings of work.
