With the series now even at a game apiece, the Padres and Diamondbacks conclude with a rubber game this afternoon, pitting Drew Pomeranz against Archie Bradley.
Pomeranz has been a welcome, if surprising, addition to the Padres rotation in 2016, and he's been especially fantastic in May. Through his first five starts this month he's posted a 0.87 ERA. This will be his seventh time facing the Dbacks in his career, and fifth time as a starter. He has struggled against them in the past, going 0-2 while posting a 7.91 ERA in those seven appearances, but hopefully he can notch his first win against them today backed by some more heavy run support from the Friars offense, who combined for 17 runs over the first two games of the series.
Bradley makes his third start of the season in as many call-ups from Triple-A Reno. He gave up a combined nine earned runs in 10 1/3 innings his previous two times up. The right-hander, who made his big league debut just last season, has never pitched against San Diego.
